Daily rent apartments in old buildings: affordable

The main plus of a daily rent apartment in an old building is the location. In Baku some old buildings stand right in the center, and from there you can walk to the boulevard and Icherisheher. The price is usually lower than in a new building on the same block.

In return, keep the age of the building in mind. Khrushchyovkas have no elevator, so you carry your suitcase up to the top floor by hand. Even if the inside has fresh renovation, the entrance stays old, so be ready for that. Ask where the hot water comes from, a water heater or a combi boiler: in a building with a water heater and weak pressure, showering becomes a problem. Mostly on the location. Old buildings are in the central part of the city, where cafes, sights and the metro are within walking distance and taxis cost less. The nightly price is also often lower than for a similar apartment in a new building. In return, the elevator, soundproofing and parking may be weak.
What does the price per night depend on?
From closeness to the center, renovation and dates. On the same street an apartment with an old renovation and one with a fresh one can differ a lot in price, so look at the bathroom and kitchen in the photos. In tourist season and on holidays the price goes up, and out of season owners are more willing to give a discount.
What is included in a daily rental?
Usually electricity, water, gas and internet are included in the daily price, along with clean bed linen and towels. In older buildings hot water often comes from a combi boiler or water heater, so ask about its capacity to make sure there's enough for everyone in the morning. Not every apartment has air conditioning; if you're traveling in summer, use the "Air conditioning" filter.
What should I watch for when renting a daily rent apartment?
You'll be asked for an ID at check-in, so keep it handy. As soon as you enter the apartment, check the hot water, the air conditioning and the door lock; if something is wrong, write to the owner the same day and send photos. New listings are moderated, but photos may be old, so don't pay the full amount without seeing the apartment. If you notice wrong information in a listing, press "Report listing."
